The lab is under the direction of H. Cecil Charles, Ph.D. Dr. Charles is an Associate Professor of Radiology, a chemist and an expert in MR imaging and spectroscopy with over 20 years of experience in nuclear magnetic resonance. He serves as the Co-Director of the Duke Center for Advanced Magnetic Resonance Development. He also has extensive experience in conducting brain imaging and spectroscopy studies serving as the Director of the Neuroimaging Core for the University of North Carolina Mental Health Clinical Research Center for the study of Neuroscience of Mental and Behavioral Disorders. He has had extensive experience in conducting longitudinal clinical trials with MRI and MRS used as biomarkers. He is part of the first NIH sponsored clinical trial of MR in-vivo spectroscopy.

Maureen D. Ainslie manages the Duke Image Analysis Lab. She has over 20 years of experience in imaging. Along with Dr. Charles, she is responsible for the data coordination and analysis center in two multicenter trials for major pharmaceutical manufacturers with over 50 sites, both domestic and international, providing MR imaging and spectroscopy data.

Dan joined DIAL in November 2006 and is responsible for Systems Analysis and Software Development involving SQUID and other DIAL computer services. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from The University of Michigan College of Engineering. Prior to joining DIAL, Dan worked as an IT Analyst with Cisco Systems RTP and as a Web Developer for a startup in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Scott White graduated from Appalachian State University in 2002 with a degree in Medical Physics. As an undergraduate, he spent time at NIST measuring the anisotropy of brachytherapy seeds (prostate cancer therapy). He originally joined DIAL in 2002 as a Digital Image Analyst, working primarily on hippocampal segmentation and MR spectroscopy for an Alzheimer's study. In 2004, he joined the UNC Department of Psychiatry to manage the data and image analysis for a longitudinal MR study, which aimed to study structural changes in the brains of schizophrenia patients. After a brief time working in industry, Scott returned to DIAL 2006 as a Computer Programmer II, and was promoted to Data Manager II in November, 2006, managing the data and analysis pipelines for multiple MR based trials.

Hamzah Hakeem joined DIAL in November 2008 as a Network System Analyst. He joined DIAL from within the Duke IT Community. He is currently working towards finishing his Associates degree in Information Technology at Wake Tech Community College.

Samantha joined DIAL in January 2007. She has a B.S in Clinical Research from University of North Carolina Wilmington. Her class was the first to graduate from this program. In August of 2009, Samantha was promoted to the position of Clinical Research Coordinator I at DIAL.

Brent received a Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Washington (Specialty: pulp and paper science and engineering). After graduating, he spent 5 years working in academia at Auburn University where he developed process simulators for the pulp and paper industry. Afterwards, Brent moved into the telecommunications industry in Jackson, MS before finally landing in the triangle area. He has spent the last 13 years working in a variety of fields including pharmaceuticals, defense, and utilities. Brent joined the DIAL team in July of 2009.

Bryan came to work for DIAL in March of 2008. He obtained a B.S. in Computer Science from SUNY Buffalo. Prior to coming to Duke, Bryan worked at Cisco as an IT Analyst/ Metrics Manager. Through his role, Bryan trains new users on how to use DIAL's SQUID system.
